FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At Keystone we welcome ANYONE who wants to try the practice of yoga. From beginner, to intermediate & advanced, you will find a warm and welcoming community here at Keystone.

WHAT IS YOGA?

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices. Originating in ancient India, yoga aims to still the mind. Most people practice yoga today by practicing in asana, which is a series (or flow) of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide physical strength. Yoga brings harmony and balance between the mind and body.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A YOGA CLASS. WHAT DO I BRING?

We encourage you to bring a yoga mat and towel. Keystone has yoga blocks, yoga straps and bolsters in house for your convenience. Some studio mats and towels avaliable for use.

WHAT DOES KEYSTONE MEAN?

A Keystone is the wedge-shaped piece at the top of an arch that locks the other pieces in place. A Keystone helps keep things in place, similar to our breath in a yoga class. In addition, Kristen is orginally from the state of Pennsylvania, nicknamed The Keystone State.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AT HOME TO PREPARE?

It is recommended to not eat at least 90 minutes prior to your yoga class.  Hydrate before and after class. You can bring a water bottle into the practice space, however most yoga traditions do not recommend drinking water during the practice.

WHAT TEMPERATURE IS YOUR STUDIO?

Most classes are kept at a warm 76-78 degrees. HOT Yoga is practiced in a 88-90 degree room. Practicing yoga in a warm room boosts many benefits such as: increased flexibility, boost heart health, burn calories, helps with better lung capacity and more.

WHAT ARE SOME THE BENEFITS OF YOGA?

With a regular practice your body can become stronger, and more flexible. Flexibility is built over time, it is a myth that you need to touch your toes to do yoga. You will have better posture and feel more grounded and calmer. Yoga can help improve your mental focus. Yoga can help ease inflammation, lower blood pressure and make you feel happier. 

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to allow yourself time to settle in. Doors are locked promptly when class beings. Late entry is not allowed as to not disrupt students that have started their practice. Please contact the studio immediately if you will be running late. 

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Anything that does not restrict your movement and what you find most comfortable. Yoga is practiced barefoot, but you are welcome to keep your socks on. Please refrain from checking your smart watches during class, if possible leave in the lobby.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN MY YOGA CLASS?

All teachers have their own style that teach to. Most classes will start with a gentle warm up and some Sun Salutations. After warming and loosening up the body you will move into some deeper poses (or asanas) with deep muscle relaxation. Classes are closed with final meditation (savasana.) This pose will help you find peace and quiet.

WHAT IF I DON'T OWN A YOGA MAT?

We have a limited supply of yoga props in house for your use. With a consistent practice you may want to purchase your own yoga mat and props. We carry a wide selection of Jade Yoga Mats and props.
